Our environmental commitments

Across New Zealand, Carus is the name trusted to deliver award-winning painting and aftercare maintenance services integrated with an ethical and environmental focus. As industry leaders, you can rely on us for sustainable solutions.

Leading sustainable solutions operate as environmentally friendly as possible, we:

ATo operate as environmentally friendly as possible, we are Enviro-Mark Diamond certified - with a robust EMS (Environmental Management System) in place; including systems that ensure our plans and policies are followed. We exceed the requirements of ISO 14001, one of the world’s best known environmental standards.

We also ensure all our team are aware of and take the necessary action to reduce any adverse impact from the paint or application of products. And we use water-based paints wherever possible; supported by an Enviro-wash paint waste disposal system to recycle the dirty paint wastewater.

Enviro-Mark Diamond Certification

Enviro-Mark Diamond is the ultimate step in the Environmental Management System journey. To achieve this certification we have included the following into our Carus environmental policy:

  • Control all important documentation to ensure only the most up to date versions are being used;
  • Have an internal EMS audit programme in operation, ensuring expected outcomes are occurring as planned;
  • Periodically review the performance of the EMS by top management;
  • Formalise roles and responsibilities for people working for and on behalf of the organisation;
  • Communicate appropriately both internally and externally;
  • Ensure appropriate training is given to people working with the EMS;
  • Document all procedures relating to managing the system;
  • Have a good system for managing problems (non-conformities and opportunities for improvement);
  • Set objectives and targets for driving improvement and have programmes in place to meet those targets;
  • Develop, implement and test environmental emergency plans;
  • Identify and evaluate our significant environmental issues arising from activities, products and services;
  • Actively monitor ongoing compliance with New Zealand legislation and ensure we’re aware of any changes to obligations;
  • Produce an environmental policy statement;
  • Understandsthe scope of our EMS (i.e., are there any parts of the organisation that need to be excluded from the EMS and why);
  • Exhibit no non-compliances with New Zealand’s applicable health and safety and environmental legislation.

Carus Environmental Policy

Carus is committed to actively working to achieve the following:

  • Protecting the environment and preventing pollution related to its activities, and
  • Complying with all applicable NZ Environmental legislation, and
  • Continually improving our performance relating to the above.

To achieve this all staff will need to be actively involved, with Environmental to be discussed in team meetings. Annaliese Fisher (Environmental Specialist) will monitor compliance as well as progress on ongoing environmental projects.

Our method to achieve the desired outcomes is:

  • Regularly (at a minimum annually) assess our activities and their effects upon the environment in a systematic and logical fashion.
  • Identify the actions we need to take to address each effect.
  • Set targets based on the actions we need to take.
  • Monitor (monthly or quarterly) our progress on each target.

The key points of its strategy to achieve this are:

  • Meet or exceed all the environmental legislation that relates to the Company.
  • Reduce number of hazardous substances used to minimise the potential health and safety impacts to staff
  • Monitor staff travel to reduce fuel use
  • Minimise waste by evaluating operations and ensuring they are as efficient as possible.
